Trial for free e-cigs

1st July 2021

The BBC have recently reported, that smokers in A&E departments will be given free e-cigarettes in a trial to help people quit.

Any smoker patients in A&E will be given a free weeks supply of e cigarettes/ e-liquid along with full instructions and advice.

Public Health England have reported that there are approximately 50,000 smokers quitting each year by vaping instead. The general thought process across the medical industry and by NHS experts is that vaping is less harmful than smoking traditional cigarettes.

The free vaping trial in emergency departments is due to commence later this year. Please bear in mind that not all smokers in A&E will be given free e-cigs. There is also due to be a study afterwards, to check whether the individuals are still smoking 1, 3 and 6 months later.
